Moving Tips

There are many factors that can affect the time it takes to move from one location to another.
Preparation before the movers arrive can make a tremendous difference and save a lot of money.

Here are a few tips that will assist in making the move go smoothly:

Make a floor plan.
Knowing where your furniture is going to be placed at the new location will save time and will avoid the extra chore of having to relocate the furniture again.
Label and seal your cartons.
Having open or lidless cartons makes it difficult to pack a truck. It also increases the likelihood for damages. All cartons should be sealed and labeled as to which room they belong so the movers know where to place them and items can be easily found. Any cartons containing fragile items should be clearly marked.
Avoid moving any unnecessary items.
Although there may be many items still holding sentimental value, there may also be a few items that really are no longer of any use. Moving time is probably a good time to purge those items you no longer need.
Accessability.
If you are on a street in which cars are parked by the curb and you do not have a driveway, try to block off sufficient space to park the moving truck and allow for a ramp. The farther we have to walk, the longer it will take. Access routes should be cleared of snow and any obstacles. We do carry shovels during the winter season, however clearing our own access path will greatly increase the moving time.
If you have the time.
We always have tools at hand and are happy to dis-assemble and re-assemble anything that is required. If budget is a factor, anything that you are able to do before the movers arrive will reduce the moving time.
